Its been a year and we now realize he's a pitbull hunting dog mix at a whopping 65 pounds. My best friend got a "hound mix"that wouldn't be over 30 pounds. I would say just do your research on sizes if you end up with a mix rescue and understand sometimes the pound just guesses on breed. I've never had a place literally weigh our dogs so you may have some wiggle room. It was super gentle and never barked so the complex allowed it and said he was "35" pounds. Lastly at my last apartment we had a 35 pound weight limit but there was a woman with a big fat lab. It helps significantly when they have verbal commands you can use over the camera if they do something. Look into behavior classes at your local petsmart or pet store. (The camera was inexpensive from what I was told) They now have a baby gate when we aren't home to stop that behavior.

It helped us realize we needed to block off lower windows as our dogs would jump and bark at people walking by. My sister got me a little pet cam where you can check what's going on. I never knew if my pets were loud or causing issues. (Currently one friend now has to pay for an entire carpet replacement before moving, because his rescue puppy tore it up) So many of my friends have had their dogs rip up or pee on carpets and lose their deposits. I would also suggest crate training at first just to prevent any anxiety induced behavior where they destroy stuff. If you get a rescue make sure you can take time off work to get them comfortable for the first few days to see how they react to the new place. However if it's a real emotional support pet go for it, if you're doing it just to avoid fees or approval then you shouldn't have a pet you cant afford to pay a fee on or may annoy neighbors if its anti-pet for everyone else. it also effects those people who actually need therapy pets as the fake ones tend to remove legitimacy from them. I used to work real estate and we would often do in person pet meetings before approving renters and you can tell the difference in someone's pet and a real therapy animal.

The emotional support pet thing is shady unless it truly is. Dont lie to the landlord it can screw you over and you could get kicked out if they are strict enough. I'd say if you have a boxer, they won't really think it's less than 25lbs. There was a 40lb weight limit, which was fine.they dropped it to 25lbs a couple years later, but they never bothered me because I had been living there for a while.
#Pet weight limit apartment plus
Some places will just down a one time deposit others will also do that but may add a monthly pet fee (our area most places said like $20 a month plus the non refundable deposit). ago I had to submit a picture of my dog when I had an apartment in California.
Ask ahead when you are moving about pet fees. My SO and I have been apartment hunting and a lot of places dont allow pits, rottweilers, chowchows, German shepards etc. I've been in apartments with my pups for a while so here is my long list of advice.īe aware that most places may have a list of "aggressive dog breeds" they don't allow.
